Alessandro Columbano is a Senior Lecturer and March Course Director at the Birmingham School of Architecture and Design. Alessandro has worked in architecture and research practices in Manchester and London focusing on residential and restoration of historic buildings, with further specialized experience in evidence-based design at Space Syntax.
He has developed a portfolio of site-specific installations, architectural spaces and artworks commenting on the subversive qualities of our physical environments. Alessandro brings these characteristics forward to his teaching as an academic and researcher in the discussion of architectural pedagogy, the culture of creative environments, cinematic architectural design methodology and contemporary material vernacular. It is applied by engaging with the city’s cultural network through an ongoing process of collaborative practice, encouraging students to be entrepreneurial citizens through their design ideas.
